Historical profile
Sirti was established in 1921 and, as is inferable from the original meaning of the name (Società Italiana Reti Telefoniche Interurbane) devoted itself to the development of long distance telephony.
The company, whose founder members were Vittorio Tedeschi and Piero Pirelli, carried out the fist long-distance vocal frequency cable connection between Milan, Turin and Genoa.
In the '20 and '30 Sirti installed several long distance cables throughout the national territory, connecting the North with the Center and the South of the Country and setting up the bases of our national telecommunication system.
 After the Second World War, Sirti widely participated in the reconstruction of the national telecommunication network, damaged during the war.
The economic development and the social transformation that took place in post-war Italy and the subsequent economic boom had in Sirti a leading player of the most advanced technological innovation offered to the community.
During the'50 and '60 Sirti realized the new network in coaxial cables and radio links, infrastructures that were indispensable for a Country launched along the way of modernization.
The introduction of optic fibers and electronic equipments sanctioned the revolution of telecommunications: the bases were laid for the integration of voices, data and video for a community which was going to become the global village.
Also in this stage the contribution of Sirti to the technological development of the country proved determinant, and the engagement, the experience and the competence of the company are witnessed by the projects and the infrastructures carried out and which constitute the nervous system of the Country.
The competencies acquired on the Italian market are the premise for the widening of its operating horizons.
Over the course of the time, Sirti achieved remarkable successes and recognition from abroad; it was the protagonist of big realizations in Middle-East countries and extended through a network of subsidiary companies in Europe and the Latin-American area.
After more than eighty years of history and activity, Sirti still has the leadership in telecommunication engineering, and extends its province through technological collaborations with the most important companies.
